Knocked up stars Seth Rogen (40 Year-Old Virgin) as the ultimate good-natured looser and Katherine Heigl (Grey's Anatomy) as a young desirable go-getter. They "hook up" at a party without using protection and after nature takes its course find themselves in a pickle. She's up the duff and he's an unemployed motivation-less stoner who has no idea about women.
Sound familiar? Well, the thought of accidental pregnancy has definitely crossed my mind like I'm sure most other people in their teens and twenties. It's a universal dilemma we can all relate to and relate you will thanks to Apatow's master touch.
He is an expert in the realm of natural interaction and knows exactly how to portray young apathetic Americans (the best kind when it comes to comedy). As a result Knocked Up is blessed with an overall authentic tone:
Alison (Heigl): Hey...
Ben (Rogen): I'm naked.
Alison: Yeah.
Ben: (whispers) Did we have sex?
Alison: Yes.
Ben Stone: Nice.
The other thing that this edgy comedy does well is push the barriers of acceptability. The gynaecologist says Alison looks like her sister "down there", weed and magic mushrooms get their share of air time and Ben's geeky mates have a certain way with words:
Jay: Man, my balls are shaved, my pubes are trimmed, I'm ready to rock this s**t!
Jonah: If I go in there and see f***in' pubes sprinkled on the toilet seat, I'm gonna f***in' lose my mind! Last time I went to the bathroom, Jay, I took a s**t and my s**t looked like a f***in' stuffed animal!
If you're in the mood for some intelligent cutting-edge toilet humour at the expense of ordinary Americans then you've come to the right place. Knocked Up is not only the funniest movie this year it's also one of the most original and as true to real life as these films get. Say goodbye to cheesy America and hello to the irreverent witty alternative.

you're joking, right?
just another piece of hollywood tripe, IMHO, only marginally different from countless other coming-of-age "dramadies"
oh well, there's no accounting for taste, i guess.
