The medicine man and his potions for your pockets

A bald, impotent man with conjunctivitis would love it in the jungle. Here in the place where the monkeys play and the mossies bite, Victor the medicine man knows a plant and recipe for a hundred medical complaints.

And if you're a healthy Harry, then he knows a very cool plant that you can put in your pocket for attracting the ladies.

The Argentines in the group faked grabbing loads of it as Victor showed us around the lodge's botanical gardens.

I left this tour gobsmacked by Victor's knowledge. At every tree or bush he could tell us its Latin name, English name and Spanish name.

At times when the Dutch on tour didn't know what is was called in their language, he knew that word too. He could tell us which plant fixed which ailment and exactly how to prepare it for medicine.

I was fascinated by how people who live in the Amazon jungle make such good use of the plants around them. I even tried some Dragon's Blood (the blood red sap from a tree) which Victor said could cure my poor, burnt lips.

Next stop: I meet Carina, the lodge's pet tapir. She thinks she's a dog. A 200kg dog.
