It was one of the most beautiful places I'd ever seen (even including New Zealand), the weather was stunning, our activities were fun and we shared it all with a group of friendly folk from all over the world.
Big brown pelicans were flying overhead, the water had gone a deep navy blue and off in the distance we could see islands sloping away, waiting for us to discover them in the morning.
Arriving at Santa Cruz, one of the populated Galapagos Islands, seemed like turning up at a Pacific Island village.
I can only imagine, since I've never actually been to one but there were all the village people living their normal lives, walking through the streets where there were signs of commerce but with no commercialism as we know it. Just laidback, happy island life.
At the end of our stay we tried to stay for longer but could not change our flights. You will fall in love with the place.
Next stop: Of all the stinking hot places we've been, the Galapagos Islands takes the cake. Thank God for all the snorkeling.
