Brooklyn - how sweet it is

There's a cool sign to let you know you've reached New York City's coolest borough and it says: 'Welcome to Brooklyn - how sweet it is'.

I had to smile when I saw it because it seemed so true.

Brooklyn residents seem to have the more laid back family-oriented lifestyle compared to those in Manhattan, the borough which means business.

Talk about leaving the best till (almost) last.

It was a very pleasant Saturday towards the end of our stay.

We'd spent the morning strolling past the glistening hanging ducks of Chinatown and the red-and-white checked tablecloths in Little Italy, a trip which led us to the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge.

You can catch the Subway between Manhattan and Brooklyn but I'd beg you to walk over that bridge.

It is the one absolutely perfect memory I have of the Big Apple.

Littered with wide-eyed tourists and New York residents, the 1825m bridge offers the best views in the city.

I'm surprised I didn't trip over because I spent so much of the walk looking back at the incomparable Manhattan skyscrapers, which seemed to go on endlessly.

With the East River sparkling below and the picture-perfect Brooklyn Bridge Park as our target, that walk was the highlight of my week in New York City.

Brooklyn is very sweeeeet indeed.

Next stop: Oh no Coney - the amusement park that is far from amusing.
