Why was my question/answer deleted?

why?

This question comes up regularly - users can feel very frustrated when they post a question or answer on Yahoo!Xtra Answers only to have it very quickly removed. There are a number of reasons why they might be removed, and these are all explained in the Community Guidelines, which you agree to abide by when you become a member.

One of the most common causes of postings being removed is that they are not phrased in the form of an actual question or answer - for example nobody could really give an answer to the statement "I've had enough?" so it will be removed from the site. Simply posting "!!!!!!Help!!!!!!?" is also not really a question and therefore is a breach of the community guidelines.

Another reason your answer might be deleted is if you don't actually attempt to answer the question posted. Responses like "Google it", or "I don't know" will be deleted because they don't provide a useful answer to the question and don't contribute to the community.

We aim to make Yahoo!Xtra Answers a site that can be used by a range of people from all walks of life, so questions that are deemed to be offensive or to contain adult content or swear words will be deleted by our Customer Care officers. This is so that all members can enjoy using Answers without feeling that they are being insulted or offended.

Lastly, Answers is not a chat site, so questions like "How are you today?", "Do you like my avatar?" and "Please email me?" won't last very long! You can set up a chat option on your profile page if you'd like to communicate with other users.

If you feel your question has been removed wrongly check the Community Guidelines and then email us at y_answrs_team_nz@yahoo.co.nz and we'll do our best to respond. You can also notify us of poor quality postings by using the Report Abuse button that is clearly visible after each question and answer.

We hope that helps explain why you've had your questions or answers deleted, and will increase your understanding of how best to enjoy the Answers community.

This is a brilliant answer to why questions may be deleted. This will encourage the community to re-establish the correct grammar and spelling. This will make it more user friendly for the wiser of our generation to join. Senior Citizens that is.
