Now I'm no tennis player myself (unless we're talking Wii Sports), but I thoroughly enjoy watching a match for the pure, palpable tension of it all.
Before I started watching tennis though, I had no idea what any of the rules were, or what any of the shots were. The more I watched, the more I got curious and started asking questions about the unique scoring method and the origins of tennis.
This, of course, led to even more questions about how tennis balls are made, how different court surfaces affect the ball, and somewhat disturbing, how tennis racquet strings are made.
All this investigation got me excited, so I set off to play a few games. Before leaving I browsed Answers looking for tips on how to improve my tennis fitness, how to hit a variety of shots such as, lobs, slices and two-handed backhands. But most importantly, how to serve. Underarms just don't cut it.
A few hit outs gave me a whole different perspective on tennis as I sat back on the couch, completely in awe of professional players. I started wondering aloud about who the best tennis player is, while others around me started wondered aloud about who the best looking tennis player is.
I'm excited about this year's competition, and if the blog posts are few and far between over it's because I'm over at Yahoo!Xtra Sports keeping in touch with all the action. Just don't tell my boss.
